You wake up early to the sound of birdsong and the waves on the shore.  You stretch slowly, and slip on your sandals and the thinnest beach wrap you can imagine.  You step outside into another dream-day.  Perfect temperature, plump lemons on the tree outside your window, vast blue ocean.  Just in time for the morning meditation session.  “How did everyone get to look so much younger and sooooo relaxed in just a few days?” you ask yourself.

After meditation you run down to the beach, with many of the new friends you have made, and play for a while in the waves. The beach seems like a mirage, which explains why it actually won an award as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Did you know that beaches can win awards?! But these waves are here all day, so now its time for breakfast, from a buffet with all local and mostly organic ingredients. Afterward you rest a while, do some stretching or take another swim. The days seem to go all by themselves outside of time, with no pressure and nothing particular to do.

Then comes the best part of the day.  Mid morning you gather with a group of friends from all over the world, who share one precious and rare thing in common: a dedication to living the deepest and most real love that is possible.  Some are single, and some are couples.  There are people here who are married but came without their partner.  There are people in their early twenties, and a few couples who have been together for more than 40 years!  Together, you spend some precious time diving into the exploration of the Deeper Love.  Commitment, monogamy, fighting, boredom, worship, control, criticism, sex, jealousy … everything gets addressed.  Nothing is excluded.  The group is intimate enough that each person can get the attention they need, and gets just the right personalized practices to slip effortlessly into a love with no limits.

For lunch, you walk down the road with a few friends to a local tavern, where you can enjoy a Greek salad, made with local tomatoes, feta cheese and greens grown nearby.  The topics of the morning session spill over into your lunch time talk… everything serves to deepen love.

After lunch you might take a stroll, go back to the beach, have a sleep… your time is your own.  The couples in the gathering might take time to be alone and close, the single people make new friends by the beach and around the resort.  Later in the afternoon we meet again for another dive into the deeper love:  questions, sharing, practices, breakthroughs.  And then to dinner: several courses, with most of the vegetables grown in the resort’s own organic garden.  After dinner you might linger with friends, take a night stroll, or enjoy a glass of wine from the bar.  And finally you kick off those sandy flip flops and sink back into your bed.

This is not just a dream.  It is a reality coming soon, perhaps for you!  Chameli and I are going to Corfu, a Greek Island, with a bunch of Deeper Love friends this June, from the 18th to 25th, and we’d love for you to come too!  It will take place at Alexis Zorba Retreat: go check it out:  Obviously space is limited, so if you are thinking about it, shoot a mail to Maria Vikman and she will fill you in on all the details.
You can pay your $200 deposit here to secure your place.
And, if you have already bought the Deeper Love Retreat at Home, or if you plan to, you will get a $100 discount coupon that you can use towards your balance.

This kind of thing sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?  Sun, sand, deeper love, good food, conscious friends from all over the world.  Its time for all of us to upgrade the dream!photos from Alexis Zorba website

Thank you so much to all the friends who joined us for the Deeper Love Retreat-at-Home virtual launch party last night.
Did you miss the call?  You can still listen to the replay.  Register here.

We had so many great questions, and we could only get to some of them on the call.  Today we had no power at our house and 17 inches of snow fell overnight.  So we headed down to the Wisdom Cafe in downtown Nevada City, ordered lattes and scrambled eggs, and answered many of your questions we had skipped.

Here are our answers so far.  We will keep going through them and posting over the weekend.

From Linda – Southampton
I’m seeking greater inner peace as I travel the often-rocky road of divorce; my husband and I are still living together (separate bedrooms) and my ability to turn it over on a daily basis is challenged and triggered frequently. Is there an inner “button” I can engage to retrieve peace & ease?! Thank you… xx
We wish you and your husband the very best in this time of transition.  The inner button you seek is who you are.  Not the thoughts and beliefs and emotional reactions you have identified with, but the one who is aware of all that.  Turn your attention to the one who is aware, and you discover that peace and ease is the sky in which challenges and triggering are passing clouds.  This is the foundation of our Deeper Love work.    From that place, you can meet your husband in deep listening and simple honesty as you go through this transition.  Be gentle with your body, and give yourself time with other women  ( this creates oxytocin, the feminine anti stress hormone).

When you hear the words of the Master Jesus, “I and the Father are One,” do you hear Jesus as the great exception or the great example?

When you hear His words “I am the way and the Truth and the Light,” is this just true about the man who spoke them, or is it also a loving reminder of your true nature, and mine and everyone we know?

I have always had a need to worship someone.  When I was a boy it was Jesus, and our father in Heaven.  Later I shifted my attention to various different Oriental gentlemen.   I have always had a need to put someone on my altar and fall to my knees in gratitude, in devotion, in surrender.

Let me tell you a lovely little story I heard many years ago.  There was a young seeker, a lover of God. His heart was innocent, full of longing to bow down and submit himself to the divine.  So he went to a teacher, who in fact was a total charlatan,  a false prophet.  This innocent young man fell at the feet of the teacher.  “I will do anything,” he said.  “Show me the way. I want to know God.”  This teacher turned and winked at his other students, as though to say “what a fool.”
“Ok,” said the teacher, “Go walk by the cliff tomorrow morning, and jump off the cliff.  Through my grace, you will fly, and you will know God.”  The young student bowed in gratitude, and left.  Everyone laughed at him behind his back as he walked off merrily to his young death.
The next day, mid morning he was back, shining like the moon.  He fell at the teachers feet.  “Thank you, thank you.  I did jump from the cliff, I did fly, and I did come to see the face of God.  I landed lightly on the rocks below, and I was carried back up to the top of the cliff without a scratch.”
The teacher was shaking with fear.  He was a fraud, and he knew it.  How had this happened?
It was not the grace of the teacher which caused this miracle, but the open and innocent heart of the young man.

Devotion purifies us, worship washes our eyes clean, surrender invites miracles.

The last years I have learned to shift the focus of my adoration from a teacher, or a deity on an altar to the one I share my life with.  Just as it was true for Jesus, I have come to learn that when I pay close attention to my wife, not by looking at her, but into her essence, I discover that Jesus’s words are also true for her.  Who she truly is and the force that creates all life are also one.

The great thing about redirecting the feelings of devotion in your heart from a deity to your partner is that it can easily become mutual.  When you worship the divine on an altar, the divine does not always worship you back.  You may occasionally suffer from unrequited love.  When you learn to see the divine dimension of the person you share a bed with, or, if you are single, the one who is on their way, that worship can be reciprocated, and amplify itself.

Chameli and I just completed a nine month process of developing our Deeper Love Retreat-at Home.  It is a 40 day course for couples and singles to discover the divine dimension of intimacy.  We will teach you the principles of how to live in this way.

Please come to the virtual launch party Thursday Feb 17th at 6pm Pacific. Virtual means on line, you can join from wherever you are.

Happy Happy Happy Valentines Day to you!!  If you have  a partner you share your life and love with, may you have the deepest and best day of connection ever!  And if you are single and ready to love, may this day be a day of deepening with the Beloved who is soon to appear.

I have not been in touch for many weeks, and today, for the first time,  I can tell you why.  Valentines Day seems like the perfect day to share this news with you, and it is the biggest and most important news we have to tell since a long time.

As you may know already, Chameli and I have dedicated ourselves, in our own personal life, to the exploration a deeper dimension of love.  We were, neither of us, well equipped for great relationship.  We both come from broken homes and challenging backgrounds.  Through constant practice and inquiry, we have stumbled upon a great secret.  When you can unlock this secret in your own life, whether you are single or in a couple, everything flows.  Over the last years we have been able to test this secret out with thousands of people, and refine it and understand it more deeply.   We have, in our own way, also recognized why there can often be resistance to living this secret, and how to overcome that resistance.

Let me tell you more.

When this great Untold Secret comes alive in your life, everything we thought was true about love gets turned on its head.

The gap disappears  between your “inner life,” (meditation and yoga and your deepest realization), and your intimate relationships.

As a single person, you shift from needing love from outside,  to showering love as a rain of blessings.

All of the seeming barriers to intimacy, like fighting and control and criticism and power struggles, actually become vehicles for this deeper love.

And all of those feelings you might have had for a great teacher or avatar or deity, that you reserved for a temple or an altar, can come alive in your own house.  Your relationship can become your religion  (a word from Latin: re-ligare, to bind you back to yourself) and the heart of your Beloved becomes your altar.

We are the most unlikely people in the whole world to stumble upon all of this, as I said, we did not have great role models.  It has been a gift of grace. After sharing this with thousands of people, we have spent the last nine months developing a retreat-at-home that couples and singles can do without going out of the house.  We have created CDs and DVDs, a 150 page workbook,  conducted video interviews with dozens of couples who are living in this way…  infact every resource we could think of to make this secret easy to live.

This weekend the last touches got added, the last glitches got ironed out, and now, on Valentines Day 2011, it is all ready!!

We are just exploding with urgent excitement to tell you all about it TODAY!!  But we know it is V-DAY, and you probably have plans tonight more attractive even than hanging out with us. So at least we can INVITE you today, on the day of love,  and we’ll have to wait a few days to share the news.

Please, please, please join us to celebrate the launch of everything we have been preparing over the last 9 months!  We want to warmly invite you to our virtual launch party on Thursday February 17th at 6pm PST.  We are going to tell you exactly what this  untold secret is, and how to live it.  We are going to share with you everything about this new gift we have been working on, and we are going to tell you how you can explore everything we have created at home, with no financial risk.

Ok, so have a great great great DAY of LOVE!  We so looking forward to sharing with you soon.

Dear Friends

Chameli and I wish you every imaginable good thing for Christmas and the New Year.  I am grateful for your readership and friendship.  Here is my holiday message, which offers a few tips on how to turn a family gathering into an opportunity for Living Awakening

All love to you

If you’ve been reading my stuff here for a while, you probably remember that back in the summer of 2009, I started to conduct interviews for a new publication with some very interesting people. I’ve been busy with that ever since. Finally, it’s come to some sort of completion.

In almost every tradition, there has been a split between spiritual awakening and worldly life. A sadhu in India renounces money, sexuality, and even clothes to discover “moksha.” In the Christian tradition, priests have generally been single and celibate, or even living in a monastery, secluded from the world. This remained true even 30 or 40 years ago when it was still quite popular to take a vow of celibacy or poverty, or to live away from the world in a spiritual community. But things have changed dramatically in the last few decades.

I regularly attend large conferences and events, and I’ve enjoyed conducting my own little amateur sociological project. When I get a crowd of a few hundred people, I like to ask, “How many people have a current vow of celibacy?” It’s very rare, these days, to see even one or two hands go up. Then I ask, “How many people would celebrate bringing your heart’s deepest awakening into your sexuality?” The crowd becomes a sea of hands. I can ask the same question about parenting, family, social and political action, but the most interesting to me is money and material success. “How many people,” I ask, “are living with a current vow of poverty? You’ve renounced money and material possessions?” Again, it’s rare to see a single hand. “And who,” I continue, “is interested in bringing awakening into your business life — to have a more conscious and awakened relationship to the flow of money?” Again, it’s a sea of hands. (more…)

I recorded this message of thanks, at Thanksgiving, to everyone who takes the time to read my stuff!
